Making Friends with Salad

Wednesday, May 18th, 2011

Well the garden is planted! I’m so excited about this year’s veggie consumption…our salads are going to be beautiful thanks to Heritage Harvest Seed Company. A couple of items I’m particularly looking forward to brightening our plates will be  Purple Dragon Carrots, red celery, black lettuce, 5-colour Swiss chard…at the very least I hope it gets our wee ones more interested in veggies.

Heritage Harvest Seed specializes in  rare and endangered heirloom varieties of flowers, vegetables, and herbs. I am so glad there is such a worthwhile  company like this, who do an amazing job of preserving and protecting valuable genetic material.  Their catalog is extensive and the historical accounts for their varieties is fascinating with some seeds having their start as early as the 9th century.
